Robert W. Tabor, Sr.
Loving Father; Longtime Member
of First United Baptist Church
TEWKSBURY -- Robert W. Tabor, Sr., a resident of Tewksbury, died March 18, 2013, after a period of declining health, aged 97 years. He was the beloved husband of the late Edna M. (Smith) Tabor, who died in 2008.
Born in Waltham, MA, January 22, 1916, he was a son of the late Harry M. and Frances (Kay) Tabor. He received his early education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1932. He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston.
Robert became associated with the H. E. Fletcher Granite Quarry in Westford as a draftsman for six years, and then as an Engineer at the General Electric plant in Lynn for 30 years, until he retired in 1972.
He met Edna in 1935; they married on June 11, 1938, and settled in Tewksbury to raise their family.
Mr. Tabor was a lifelong, very active member of the First United Baptist Church in Lowell. He was an avid golfer and played with several leagues. He was an accomplished woodworker. His many projects included constructing the family home, and crafting a series of sail and power boats.
Mr. Tabor is survived by two daughters, Phyllis A. Ulrickson of Dracut, formerly of Wilmington, and Carol E. McPhee of Lowell. A son, Robert W. Tabor Jr. and his wife Sandra of Tyngsborough. Eight grandchildren; Laurie Levinger, Karen Estabrook, Kenneth McPhee, Kevin McPhee, Cheryl Brundige, Kurt McPhee, Ryan Tabor and Devon Tabor. Five great-grandchildren, Kaytlin Estabrook, Melissa Estabrook, Carolyn McPhee, Erin McPhee and Meara McPhee. He was the father-in-law of the late Donald K. McPhee.
