Paul J. Hoar, Sr.
Retired Chelmsford Guidance Counselor
LOWELL -- Paul J. Hoar, Sr., 91, a member of a well known Lowell family, died Monday, March 11, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital.
He was the husband of the late Rita A. (McCann) Hoar who died January 26, 1988.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, September 15, 1921, the son of the late Michael and the late Elizabeth (Delany) Hoar, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Paul went on to graduate from Boston College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Later, he received his Masters in Psychology from Fitchburg State Teacher's College.
A veteran of World War II, he served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Before retirement, Paul worked as a Guidance Counselor for Chelmsford High School for over 20 years.
Active in the community, he was a former President of the Chelmsford Kiwanis Club, and enjoyed local politics in Greater Lowell.
Paul had a passion for golf and was a Past President of Longmeadow Golf Club in Lowell and was a former member of Vesper Country Club as well.
He is survived by his son, Paul J. Hoar, Jr. and his wife, Joanne of Lowell; three grandchildren, Jordyn M. Hoar, Zachary P. Hoar and Jacob S. Hoar; a great-granddaughter, Zoie Hoar; several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Beatrice Hoar, the late Frederick Hoar, the late Roger Hoar, and the late Elizabeth Johnson.
HOAR -- Committal Services were held privately. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Intention this Sunday afternoon at the Immaculate Conception Church at 5 o'clock. My sincere sympathy on the passing away of your beloved Paul. He was my guidance counselor during the years I attended Chelmsford High School.He was a brilliant man demonstrating his leadership and coaching students the importance of a quality education. I will always remember the help and guidance he gave me choosing a college best for me.
Sending thoughts and prayers; especially during this difficult time.. With heartfelt and deepest sympathy always.

Paul was a great friend of mine when we worked together in the Chelmsford school system. We worked on many issues concering the students and the teachers. Sorry to hear of your loss.
