Joao Bettencourt Beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather LOWELL -- Joao Bettencourt, 88, of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved wife of Antonieta Gil (Ramos) Bettencourt with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November 24. He was born on August 24, 1926 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Jose and the late Luisa (Bettencourt) DaSilva. Joao grew up in Graciosa, where he attended the local schools. While in Portugal, he worked as painter and a fisherman before moving to the United States in December of 1966, settling in Lowell. Joao resided in Lowell and was a communicant of St. Anthony Parish. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing soccer and raising rabbits. He was employed for United Heel, Commadore Foods, and Bradford Industries throughout his lifetime. In addition to his beloved wife, Antonieta, he is survived by his seven children, Maria Bettencourt and her husband, Serafim of Chelmsford, Denia Cunha and her husband, Manuel of Lowell, Valdemar Bettencourt and his wife, Xiaopei Wang of Nashua, George Bettencourt and his wife, Kathy of Lowell, Aginaldo Bettencourt and his wife, Elizabeth of Lowell, Neogenio Bettencourt of Lowell, and Teresa Bettencourt of Mississippi; 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Teresa Silva of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members. Joao was also the brother of the late Frank Bettencourt and Cecilia Perreira. BETTENCOURT -- YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS FROM 4 UNTIL 8 P.M. ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 22. Timothy Boutoures WWII Navy Veteran, Chemical Engineer; 94 TEWKSBURY -- Mr. Timothy Boutoures, age 94, died peacefully Wednesday evening, December 10, at Woodbriar of Wilmington, after a long period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Bella (Agias) Boutoures, with whom he would have celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary on December 29th. Mr. Boutoures was born in Haverhill, October 11, 1920, the son of Gregory and Georgia (Misogianes) Boutoures, and raised in Haverhill. He graduated from Haverhill High School and went on to graduate from Boston University's Chemical Engineering program, Class of 1942. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, as a Fire Controlman Third Class aboard the USS Douglas, and USS PGM 27 minesweeper ships. His ship was part of the fleet present at the surrender of Japan, where he went on to survive a shipwreck grounding during a Typhoon just after the signing ceremony. He earned the Victory, American Theater, and Asiatic-Pacific Medals. Upon his honorable discharge he worked as a chemical engineer at the New England Instrument Company's Chelmsford branch. He retired after 25 years, and continued to work part time as a realtor for Dick Lepine Realty in Lowell and DeWolfe Real Estate in Tewksbury. Throughout his life he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, yard work, reading books and magazines and solving puzzles. He is a member of the Saggahew AF & AM Lodge in Haverhill, and the American Legion Post 259 in Tewksbury. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory M. Boutoures and his wife Linda A. (Snow) of Wilmington; three beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, and Allison; two nephews; and was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Georgacopoulos and Elizabeth Christos. Delores A. (Carver) (Carey) Brunelle of Lowell; 78 LOWELL, MA -- Delores A. (Carver) (Carey) Brunelle, age 78, passed away on Dec. 14, 2014 at Wingate of Lowell. She was widow of Robert A. "Babe" Brunelle, Who died in January of 2013. She was born in Lowell on Dec. 14, 1936, daughter of the late Volley & Mildred (Shea) Carver. A 35-year resident of Lowell, she previously lived in Portland, Maine. She was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a home health aide for several years with Nursing Services of Salem, NH. She is survived by her children, Alfred Brunelle and his wife Dawn of Pelham, NH, Richard Carey, Jr. and his wife Cheryl and Ralph Carey and his wife Barbara, all of Nashua, NH, Jeannine Roy of Tuscon, AZ, Robert Carey of Skowhegan, ME, and Marie Evans and her husband William, III of Londonderry, NH; a sister, Doris Ciccone of Portland, ME; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces & nephews. Joseph L. Burgoyne Jr. Former CEO and President of Ideal Concrete Block Company in Waltham & Westford, MA; 85 WALTHAM -- Joseph L. Burgoyne Jr., 85, of Waltham, died Wednesday evening, at the Maristhill Nursing Home, after a long illness. Born in Waltham, he has been a lifelong resident here. He was the former CEO and President of Ideal Concrete Block Company of Waltham and Westford, MA. Joe served at the helm of for over 40 years before transferring the stewardship of the company to his sons, Joseph III, John and Jim as did his father to him and his brother, Jim. Joe, was an industry leader and pioneer during his tenure who introduced a number of production and product innovations within the industry. Buildings through-out the Boston area and surrounding communities were built with block ideal manufactured and supplied. In 1975, his company was one of the first in the nation to produce concrete pavers and his vision placed Ideal at the fore front of the concrete paver industry. A decade later, he recognized the need for segmental retaining walls and these products remain today to be a part of the core offering of the company. Over the years Joe was an active member of many industry associations that included among others The National & New England Concrete Masonry Associations, the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute. Joe was known for his love of family and Community, and a man who always found time to give back. He served on the Waltham Hospital Building Committee, The Rosary Academy, The Hundred Club of Massachusetts, and an ardent supporter of numerous community organizations and was one of the founding sponsors of Waltham Babe Ruth Baseball. Dugouts for many of the baseball leagues through-out Waltham were built with Ideal Concrete Block he donated. Mr Burgoyne served with the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. His love for the Sea and Boating allowed him a favorite pastime of Fishing and spending time on the sea. He was the son of the late Joseph L. & Jane (Hedrington) Burgoyne Sr., brother of the late James E. Burgoyne & Pauline Sanford. He was the husband of the late Mary Rose (McLaughlin) Burgoyne. He is survived by his children, Ms. Jane Burgoyne, Mrs. Mary Anne Gemma and her husband, Marco, Margare Anne Bulger and her husband, John, all of Waltham, Joseph L. Burgoyne III, and his wife, Patricia of Waltham, John V. Burgoyne and his "Ginni" of Westford, James M. Burgoyne and his wife, Bernice of Nashua, N.H.; his sisters, Mary T. Burgoyne of Waltham, Jean Newcomb of Norwood, Georgine Brouliette of Townsend, and Geraldine Smith of Florida. In addition, he leaves nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. BURGOYNE -- Services will be held Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary's Church, 145 School Street, Waltham at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the family lot at Calvary Cemetery, Waltham. Ryan M. Burke MCI-Shirley Corrections Officer TEWKSBURY -- Ryan M. Burke, age 31, a former longtime Tewksbury resident, passed away unexpectedly, at the Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Born in Melrose on October 31, 1983, he was the beloved son of Robert S. Burke and Teresa E. (Robinson) Burke, who survive him, of Seabrook, NH, formerly of Tewksbury. Ryan was raised in Tewksbury, attended Tewksbury schools and graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School in 2002. Following high school, he attended Middlesex Community College. Ryan was employed as a Corrections Officer at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Facility in Shirley for the past 10 years. He enjoyed playing a round of golf with his friends and was a passionate sports enthusiast. In addition to his parents, Ryan is survived by his twin sister, Rachel B. Crouse and her husband Robert of Worcester; also many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. BURKE -- Ryan M. Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 19, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Saturday, Dec. 20, at 9 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. William's Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Barbara A. Burton of Pelham; 81 PELHAM -- Barbara A. (Spearel) Burton, 81, of Pelham, passed away Friday, December 19th, following a sudden illness at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Richard C. "Dick" Burton, Sr. with whom she celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on August 16th of this year. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 7, 1933, the daughter of the late Bertice W. and the late Estelle M. (D'Entremont) Spearel, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She then went on to attend Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing. Before retiring, Barbara worked as a Teacher's Assistant at the former Steepletop Kindergarten and Nursery in Pelham for 33 years where she was affectionately known as "Mrs. B." Previously, she was employed as a nurse in the office of Dr. B. D. Hughes in Nashua for many years and at Nashua Memorial Hospital (now known as Southern New Hampshire Medical Center). She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Pelham. Among her many interests, Barbara enjoyed cooking, shopping and traveling, including a cross-country excursion and many trips to Virginia. But above all else, being all about family, Barbara dedicated her life to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband Dick, Barbara is survived by two daughters, Deborah Hallinan and her husband, David of Deerfield, NH, and Cheryl Lutsko and her husband, Jim of Hudson, NH; four sons, Richard C. Burton, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Waynesboro, VA, Wayne Burton and his wife, Louise of Windham, NH, Dana Burton and his wife, Denise of Manchester, NH, and David Burton and his companion, Tricia Hennick of Gloucester, MA; 16 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, Col. Donald W. Spearel (Ret) of Clearwater, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also sister of the late Robert W. Spearel, and aunt of the late Capt. Donald W. Spearel and the late Leslie A. Spearel. BURTON -- In Nashua, NH, Dec. 19, 2014, at Southern NH Medical, Barbara A. (Spearel) Burton, 81, of Pelham, wife of Richard C. "Dick" Burton.
