Miller, Linda Dunlap
Linda Dunlap Miller Dracut High 1955 graduate Linda Dunlap Miller, daughter of Marjorie Bodwell Dunlap and Albert Atkinson Dunlap, succumbed to a swift, merciless cancer on February 20, 2015. Linda was born in Stamford, CT, 1938, the same year her family moved to College Station, Texas, where her father was a professor of agriculture at Texas A&M University. In 1950, they relocated to a dairy farm in Dracut, MA, where Linda graduated from high school in 1955, a year early and Valedictorian. She went on to study piano at the New England Conservatory of Music, winning the coveted Chadwick Award for "highest proficiency of any instrument" in 1959. Linda then performed in concerts and studied piano under the esteemed Leonard Shure, living in New York City, Zurich and, finally, Munich. While in Germany, Linda had a civilian job at the U.S. Army base Pinder Kaserne, where she met Walter Merritt Miller, who quickly proved more enticing than a piano career. They married in 1963, moved to Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts, and had two children, Alice and Ted. Linda taught piano for 15 years and, in 1984, began a successful 30-year career in residential real estate with Carlson Real Estate and Coldwell Banker. Linda was a beautiful lady known for her style, incredible intellect, sense of humor and absolute mastery of the four-course dinner party. She loved the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots in equal measure. She could identify a composer as easily as she could a middle reliever or middle linebacker. She was a fabulous road trip companion, a passionate cook and a wonderful gardener known especially for her dahlias. She was the master of the Thursday-Saturday New York Times crossword puzzles and a renowned fan of watching her children and grandchildren play sports. In addition to her beloved husband of 52 years and her children, Linda is survived by four grandchildren, Teddy and Azzie Economo and Bridget and Jessie Miller; daughter-in-law, Bernadette Carr; and three sisters, Anne Vaughan of Berwick, Maine, Helen Dunlap of Dracut, MA, and Sarah Dunlap of Gloucester, MA. Burial will be private and a memorial service will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA.
