Armeda (Pallotta) Richardson

Armeda (Pallotta) Richardson, RN
Loving Mother and Grandmother

Owner, Richardson's Dairy, Dracut

DRACUT -- Armeda "Al" (Pallotta) Richardson, RN, of Dracut, died peacefully at home on February 24, 2014, aged 99 years. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold "Buster" Richardson, who died in 2007. They shared 66 years of marriage.

Al was born on April 19, 1914 in Andover, Vermont, the fourth of twelve children born to the late Donata and James Pallotta of Italy. She grew up on the family farm, known as Pallotta's Hill, in Ludlow, Vermont.

After graduating from Black River Academy, she took a train to Lowell to attend the Lowell General School of Nursing. During her years at LGH, she met the love of her life, Buster, of Dracut. They married in 1941, and lived in Dracut for their entire married life.

During WW II, they helped with the Richardson family milk business, and in 1957, opened Richardson's Dairy Ice Cream Stand on Bridge Street, in Dracut.

Armeda was a Charter Member and past President of the Altrusa Club of the Merrimack Valley. A hard worker, she was always a fixture at her desk or overseeing the dairy's crew of young people. Al was skilled at many things. She created beautiful works of embroidery, took woodworking and upholstery classes, tiled and wallpapered, and was an accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed researching Richardson family genealogy back to the 1600's when they first arrived in America. In their younger days, she and Buster loved to dance.

She is survived by three children, Harold G. Richardson, Jr. and his wife Alexandra of Winchester, MA, James H. Richardson and his wife Susan of Boscawen, NH, and the Rev. Eleanor Richardson of Dracut, MA. Her beloved grandchildren, who brought her great joy, Rebecca Richardson, Susanna Saari and her husband Timothy, Jamie Bryant and her husband Erich, Nathan Malloy and his wife Monique, and Danielle Beauchamp and her husband David, and her very special great-grandchildren, Nadia and Timothy Saari and Samara Bryant; Trevor Malloy and David and Devon Beauchamp. She is also survived by six siblings, Julia Contrada of Tewksbury, MA, Louise Diassi of Bonita Springs, FL, Valentino Pallotta of Somerset, MA, Vincent Pallotta and his wife Barbara of Ludlow, VT, Irene Darrin of Waynesboro, VA, and Leonard Pallotta and his wife Jeanne of Underhill, VT, as well as many nieces and nephews, and her beloved "granddog" Cujo. She was predeceased by her precious great-granddaughter, Sydney Richardson-Marquis, and her siblings, Lt. Anthony Pallotta, Matilda D'Ambola, RN, Carmen Pallotta, MD, Elizabeth Wyse, MD, and Amedeo Pallotta.

A special thank you to dear friends Tina Maxfield, and David and Gretchen Mayall for the hours of kind companionship they gave Armeda, and for joyfully driving "Miss Daisy", and to family members Jennifer, Gerrin, Gerrin Reed, Abbie and Gracie, for feeding our bodies, shoveling snow and taking out the trash.
