HUDSON, NH -- Mr. Arthur Edward Ford, 70, of Hudson, NH, died Wednesday, October 3, 2012, at home surrounded by his loving family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was married to Mrs. Gayle (Smith) Ford with whom he shared 43 years and recently celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on September 3, 2012.

The son of the late Wendell and Mary (Gilleo) Ford, he was a graduate of Melrose High School with the class of 1960.

He served with the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

He was employed by the United States Postal Service for 27 years. He held various positions, most recently as a letter carrier for the Nashua Post Office where he retired in 1999. He previously worked at the Boston Naval Ship Yard.

He was a former communicant of St. Kathryn's Church of Hudson, NH. He was a member of the American Legion of Hudson, NH. He was an avid sports fan. He loved camping and working in the yard, occasional trips to Foxwoods, and family vacations at York Beach, ME. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steven Ford, and Paul and Dorothy Demers of Dracut, MA; two daughters and a son-in-law, Maureen and Scott Lagasse of Hudson, NH, and Cindy Heidbreder of Merrimack, NH; a brother, W. Warren Ford of Lowell, MA; five grandchildren, Jillian Lagasse, Eric Lagasse, Cody Demers, Kyle Heidbreder, and Kaitlyn Heidbreder; a goddaughter, Meaghan Mead; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother of the late Wendell Ford of Wakefield, MA, and the late Florence Walker of Belmont, MA.

FORD -- Arthur Edward Ford, of Hudson, NH, died October 3, 2012. Visiting hours Sun. 4 to 8 P.M. Funeral Monday at 8 A.M. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford.
