TYNGSBORO -- Elliot Scimemi, of Tyngsboro, died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital.
He was married to Ellen Scimemi with whom he would have celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on September 30, 2013.
Born in Tyngsboro, he was the son of the late Stephano and Philomena Scimemi. He was educated in the Tyngsboro school system.
He proudly served with the U.S. Army during World War II
and the landing at Anzio Beachhead, Italy. As part of the "T" Force, an intelligence unit, he was a motorcycle courier delivering messages in France, Belgium and Germany. He was awarded a Bronze Star
, Combat Infantry Badge and five battle stars.
Elliot retired as the Dairy Manager in the Commissary at Ft. Devens in Ayer, MA.
His hobbies included metal detecting, and ballroom dancing with his wife.
Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Brett and his wife, Mary Scimemi of Manchester, NH; one brother, Frank and his wife, Louise Scimemi of Groton; one sister, Katherine Leslie of Chelmsford; two brothers-in law, Alfred Peterson of Grand Island, FL, and Kenneth Peterson of Londonderry, NH; three grandchildren, William Scimemi, Avery Scimemi and Anabella Scimemi; and many nieces and nephews.
