Filia (Mavrogianis) Mitchell

CANTON -- Mrs. Filia (Mavrogianis) Mitchell, 95, formerly of Lowell passed away Tuesday October 2nd at the Hellenic Nursing and Rehab Center.
Filia was born June 19, 1917 in Woburn, Massachusetts a daughter of the late John and Erene(Mihalas) Mavrogianis. Loving wife to the late Constantine G. Mitchell and loving mother to the late Malama Xerras.
Filia was educated through the Tewksbury Schools. She and Constantine moved to Chicago for many years. They returned to the area in 1965 settling in Tewksbury where they raised their two children, Malama and George.
Filia was very active member at Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell where she married her husband of forty three years in 1945. She also was a member of the church's Ladies Philoptochos Society.
She is survived by her son, Dr. George C. Mitchell of Easton, her grandchildren, Tina Varinos and her husband Dr. Frank of Middleton, Dr. Dean Xerras and his wife Lynne of Newton, Ma.; her son-in-law, Spiros Xerras of Peabody; four great-grandsons, Anastas, Spero, Elias Varinos and Luke Xerras; three great- granddaughters, Sophia Varinos ,Madeline Xerras, and Charlotte Xerras.
Filia was predeceased by her sister, Malama Mavrogianis, and her brothers, Stely, Teddy, and James.
MITCHELL -- Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St. Lowell on Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00pm. Her funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Friday at 9:00am with services at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell at 10:00a.m. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Transfiguration Church Ladies Philoptochos, Fr. Sarantos Way, Lowell, Ma. 01854 and or Hellenic Women's Benevolent Association, 601 Sherman St., Canton, Ma. 02021. Interment will be in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell.
