Loving husband, father, and grandfather;

Korean War Veteran

LONDONDERRY, NH -- Francis "Sandy" Black, Jr., of Londonderry, NH, formerly of Lowell, died October 17, 2013, in Londonderry, after a lengthy illness, aged 83 years.

He was the beloved husband of Anne Marie (Wahl) Black, with whom he was married for 61 years.

Born in Lowell, December 6, 1929, a son of the late Francis Sr. and Janet (Leslie) Black. He received his early education in the Lowell school system and furthered his education at the Lowell Trade School.

Francis enlisted in the U. S. Army on November 22, 1948, serving with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Division, as a Staff Sergeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal and Army of Occupation Medal, Germany, and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1952.

Returning home, he became associated with the H. E. Fletcher Granite Quarry in Westford as a Stone Cutter. He became a Licensed Plumber and worked at J. D. Goerke, and then at Demis Plumbing. Later, he worked as the Gas Inspector for the City of Lowell for over 20 years, until he retired in 1992.

Mr. Black was a Master Mason with the Pentucket Lodge of Lowell, and a member of the Acacia Club in Dracut.

He was a longtime member of Christ Church United in Dracut.

Sandy enjoyed traveling with Anne Marie, especially to Germany to visit relatives. He also enjoyed golf, and followed all New England sports teams, especially the Red Sox and Patriots.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Carl E. Black and his wife, Ann of North Carolina, Robert B. Black and his wife, Peggy of Tewksbury, Francis S. Black and his fiancée, Doris C. Soucy of Dracut; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Duggan and her husband, Charles of Londonderry, NH, and Christl Sherman and her husband, Scott of Hudson NH; 15 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Elizabeth Cockerline of California, Janet Pockrus of Alabama, and Jean Major and her husband Ray of South Carolina; a brother, Robert Bruce Black of Alabama.

He was the brother of the late John Black, Jim Black, and Margaret Elliott.

Friends will be received at the MORSE-BAYLISS Funeral Home, 122 Princeton Blvd., Lowell, on Saturday from 4 to 8 PM. Mr. Black's Funeral Service will be held at Christ Church United, 10 Arlington St., Dracut, on Sunday at 2:00 PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment will be private.
