Lowell native, WWll Vet; 88
NEW BERLIN, WI -- George Georgoulis, "Mac", a Lowell native, and the son of Greek immigrants raised in the Acre section of the city, died January 4, in New Berlin, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. He was 88.
George was born in Lowell, March 23, 1924, son of the late Andreas and Catherine (nee Pappadatou) Georgoulis. He attended local schools and enlisted in the US Navy. During World War II
, he proudly served in the European and Pacific theaters and landed troops on the beaches on D-Day.
He met his late wife of 61 years, Geraldine, while on weekend leave in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, while attending training school at Great Lakes in Illinois.
He worked for Wisconsin Bell/AT&T for 33 years, retiring in 1985.
"Mac" is survived by his children, Andreas, Kathryn (Miles Thompson) Georgoulis, Christine Everett, Alicia Georgoulis, and Stefanie Georgoulis, all of Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark. George was grandfather to Pamela (William) Behm, Meredith, Lauren, Blair, and Dallas Thompson, and Matthew and Christopher Everett. He also leaves his only surviving brother, Nicholas (Frances) Georgoulis of Lowell. He is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law in Wisconsin and Massachusetts; and many nieces and nephews. George was the brother of the late Constatine, Aspacia, Christos, Spiros, Ephstratios, Evangelos, and Philoctimon Georgoulis.
