CHELMSFORD -- James M. Lane, 79, a longtime Chelmsford resident, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

He was the beloved husband of Ingeborg H. (Blinten) Lane.

He was born in Kenosha, WI on August 30, 1933, and was a son of the late Dr. John William Lane and Evelyn Pauline (Griffin) Lane."'Jim" graduated from Syracuse University where he played Division 1 football.

Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 30 years at both Hanscom Air Force Base and MITRE Corp. as a negotiating contractor for the Department of Defense.

He was an avid fisherman, enjoying both fresh and saltwater fishing along the Maine Coast, as well as in the Adirondack region of upstate New York.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children; Michael Lane and his wife, Deborah of Bedford, NH, and Karin Marshall and her husband, Stephen of Townsend; five grandchildren, Hillary, Ambry, and Emily Lane, and James and Samantha Marshall; a brother, Robert Lane and his wife, Nancy of Greenwich, CT; and sisters-in-law, Wiltrud Lane of Barnevald, NY, and Jackie Lane of Vienna, VA.

He was the brother of the late Gerald and William Lane.
