HAVERHILL -- Joseph W. Bigos Sr., 78, former long-time Dracut resident, died peacefully on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
He was the beloved husband of the late Sandra L. (Richards) Bigos who passed away in 1982.
Joseph was born in Lowell on June 23, 1934, a son of Gertrude F. (McFadden) and Joseph S. Bigos. He received his education in the Lowell school system and was a graduate of Lowell High School. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the U.S, Air Force for eight years where he worked as a hydraulics mechanic until his honorable discharge.
Joseph had a passion for aviation and enjoyed flying small planes as well radio controlled model aircraft. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, traveling and was a former member of the Jaycees, but his favorite times were spent with his family.
He is survived by his three children, Joseph W. Bigos Jr. and his wife, Pamela of Dracut, Marybeth Hopkins and her husband, Tommy of Dracut, and Richard G. Bigos of Merrimack, NH; as well as four grandchildren, Alyssa and Joseph W. Bigos III, and Samantha and Patrick Hodgson.
BIGOS -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, May 15th from 4-8 pm at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. His funeral will take place from the funeral home on Thursday May 16th at 8 am, with his funeral Mass to be celebrated at 9 am in St. Theresa's Church/St. Marguerite D'Youville Parish in Dracut.
