NASHUA, NH -- Joseph W. "Joe" Reid, of Nashua, NH, formerly of Tewksbury, died March 23, 2014, in Lowell, with his loving family at his side, aged 88 years. He was the beloved husband of Rose A. (Bibeault) Reid, with whom he celebrated 25 years of marriage last August.
Born in Boston, May 3, 1925, a son of the late William and Anna (Allenshepski) Reid. He received his education in the Boston school system.
Joseph enlisted in the U. S. Navy on August 24, 1943, shortly after his 17th birthday. He served aboard the USS Wasp and the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt during World War II
. He received the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, American Area Philippine Liberation Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Medal. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1950. He was also an honorary member of the Nashua, New Hampshire Police Department.
When he returned from service, Joe became affiliated with EG&G in Boston for a time, before accepting a job as Quality Control Engineer at Wang Laboratories, where he worked for many years, until his retirement in 1985.
Joe was a longtime member of the Long Meadow Golf Club in Lowell, and also enjoyed bowling at Brunswick Lanes. He was an avid follower of all New England sports teams, and was especially happy to witness his beloved Red Sox reverse the curse in 2004.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Diane J. Dogherty of Manchester, NH, Doris Morrissette and her husband Dennis of Laconia, NH, Jacqueline Psoinos and her partner Stephan of Lowell, and two sons, Robert Laferriere and his wife Diane of Billerica, and Richard Laferriere and his wife Terry of Kansas. Six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
