longtime resident of Chelmsford; 89

CHELMSFORD -- Leonard Francis, 89, a longtime resident of Chelmsford passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Lowell General Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Angela S. (Barboza) Francis, to whom he was married for 53 years.

He was born in Fall River on August 6, 1924, and was a son of the late Raymond and Mary O. (Mello) Francis. He received his education in Fall River schools and was a graduate of Durfee High School. He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Rhode Island.

Leonard served in the United States Army during World War II. He then continued his service in the intelligence branch of the U.S. Army Reserves, before retiring as a Colonel.

He also had a long and distinguished career as an electronics engineer, retiring from Engineer Management at the Defense Logistics Agency and then from AVCO Corp. in Wilmington.

In his free time he enjoyed travelling with his wife.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a brother, Paul Francis of Exeter, NH; and a niece, Patricia Paul of Morrisville, VT. He was also the brother of the late Dorothy Nobrega.

FRANCIS -- It being his wish, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, Nov. 2nd at 9 o'clock at St. Mary Church, 25 North Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
