Leonard "Lenny" M. Champa Sr.
WWII, U.S. Marine Veteran
BILLERICA -- Leonard "Lenny" M. Champa Sr., age 86, husband of the late Rosalie (Maiullari) Champa died Friday at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Woburn, February 26, 1926, the son of the late Michael and Mary (Bevilacqua) Champa and was raised in Woburn before moving to Billerica in 1951.
Mr. Champa served in the Marines during WWII
in the 6th Marine Division having been stationed in Okinawa. He was a charter member of the V.F.W
. Solomon Post, Life Member of the D.A.V. and the Billerica Knights of Columbus. Mr. Champa traveled to Washington, DC in May 2011 as part of Honor Flight New England, honoring veterans from WWII, and the experience was especially meaningful to him.
Mr. Champa owned and operated his own mason contracting business for many years, and later, his own excavating and grading business in Billerica, before retiring at the age of 80.
He is survived by his daughters, Gerri Levis of Waltham, Diane Champa of Billerica, Jean Meltzer and her husband Steven of Billerica and Linda Anastasi and her husband Tony of Billerica. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
CHAMPA -- Of Billerica, Oct. 12, Leonard "Lenny" M. Champa Sr. Funeral Monday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. A graveside service will be held at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
