PEPPERELL -- January 21, 2013 Paul Edwin Straitiff Sr., 79, passed away after a long illness at his home in Pepperell, Massachusetts. He was born March 2, 1933 in Pepperell, a son of the late William A. and Doris (Blood) Straitiff. After graduating from Pepperell High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving from September 24, 1952 to September 23, 1956; the day he married Ella Mae Adkins of West Virginia whom he met while serving in Cherry Point, NC. He was a Staff Sergeant served in Japan with the 3rd Marine Division.

As a veteran, Paul belonged to the VFW, serving as Quartermaster at Post #3291 in Pepperell.

In his early years, he worked for 2 years at Kye's Farm and 4 years at Woodhaven Greenhouse, both in Pepperell. He was employed for 15 years at St. Regis Paper Mill, 9 years at the Pepperell Braiding Company and is a retired Captain after 25 years with the Fort Devens Fire Department. Paul is also a retired Deputy Chief with the Pepperell Volunteer Fire Department and a lifetime member of the Odd Fellows.

His interests include traveling, a love of birds and nature, devotion to his and his wife's extended families, his great pride in his long service with the Fire department and considered himself a lifelong Marine.

He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Ella Mae. He is survived by his children: Paula Adams of Billerica, MA, Wilma Berry of Grottoes, VA, James of Pepperell, William of Nashua, NH and Paul, Jr. of Nashua, NH. His Grandchildren: Jonathan Genest, Joseph Landry, Nicole Landry, Jessi Straitiff and Rachel Straitiff. Son-In-Law's Wayne Adams and Rick Berry, Daughter-In-Law Sue Palmer; Granddaughter-In-Law Ashley Genest and Great-Granddaughter Madeline Genest.

Paul is also predeceased by his brothers John and Charles and survived by sisters: Ruth Ham, Sara Brooks, Florence Wilbert, Ida Straitiff, and Doris Barlow and by brothers: Ralph and Alfred.

STRAITIFF -- There are no Visiting hours or Funeral Services. A private family burial will be held at a future date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Pepperell.
