Paul G. Godzyk

WILMINGTON -- Paul G. Godzyk, age 94, a life-long resident of Wilmington, died March 29, 2013, after a lengthy period of declining health.
Paul was the beloved husband of the late Ruth M. (Evans) Godzyk, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage prior to her death in 2005.
Paul was the dear son of the late Harry and Julia (Klebasz) Godzyk of Wilmington. Paul was born at home and educated in Wilmington, and a graduate of Wilmington High School.
In 1942, Paul enlisted in the U. S. Navy and served as a combat veteran in the Pacific Theater on a LC 1 (L) - 465 as a motor machinist in the engine room. He was very involved in the attack on Guam and received several bronze stars
for his service. In 1944, he was transferred to the USS LST-220 until his honorable discharge in November of 1945. Paul received many commendations for his service and he returned home to Wilmington.
Paul was a hard worker, he owned and operated Godzyk Trucking in Wilmington until his retirement.
Paul was the father of Paul Godzyk II, Pamela Lecesse, and Elizabeth Godzyk, all of Wilmington, Paula Moisan and her husband, Paul of Lowell, and the late Arthur Godzyk of Wilmington. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Paul was predeceased by his two sisters, Amelia Booth and Anna Clinton.
GODZYK -- Family and friends will gather for Visiting Hours at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Wednesday, April 3rd from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington.
