FORT MYERS, Florida -- Robert Foster, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Chelmsford, MA, and Collinsville, IL, died Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013, while he and his wife, Elizabeth (Seago) were visiting his beloved sister, Susan Cook, in Rantoul, IL.
Bob was born in Highland, IL, December 30th, 1934, son of Jaudon and Margaret Lee Foster. After growing up in Collinsville, Bob graduated from the University of Illinois
, a proud member of the Delta Chi fraternity, with a lifelong passion for his "Illini" sports teams. After completing three years of service in the US Army, Bob had an extensive career in sales and management with Ralston Purina, Sonoco Paper Products, and American Paper.
Upon retiring, he was a successful real estate broker for Century 21 Landmark in Chelmsford, MA.
A three year journey in a motor home across the USA led Bob and Elizabeth (Liz) to retirement in Fort Myers, where they have lived over the past 10 years. Bob and Liz loved to travel with the highlight an adventurous trip to South Africa.
For many years, he enjoyed skiing at Sugarloaf Mountain in Maine, especially loving when the children or grandchildren joined him. Because of his deep love for his extended family that often included neighbors and friends, Bob eagerly planned all and any family activities. As a distant relative to Robert E. Lee, Bob was an avid Civil War buff, particularly its naval history.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of over 57 years, Elizabeth; his sister, Susan Cook of Rantoul, IL; his children, Robin Dye, Lisa Ettlinger, and Lee Foster; his grandchildren, Kathryn Dye Parsons, Thomas Dye, Nicholas and Matilda Ettlinger.
A Memorial Service will be held in Lexington, MA at Hancock United Church of Christ on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions, may be made to the Salvation Army or Harry Chapin Food Bank in Fort Myers, Florida.
