WESTFORD, MA -- Stephan D. Price, 71, of Westford, MA died Sat. December 1, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Virginia (Terpay) Price with whom he celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on June 18th.

Stephan was the son of the late Benjamin and Jean Price. He was a graduate of a Los Angeles High School with the class of 1959. He graduated from UCLA of Los Angeles, CA with a Bachelor in Science in Astronomy with the class of 1963. Stephan received his Master and Doctorate degrees from Ohio State University of Columbus, OH with the classes of 1966 and 1970 respectively.

He retired after 42 years as an astrophysicist from Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, MA in July 2011. Until his illness, he was a part-time researcher for Boston College.

Stephan was a pioneer in Infrared Astronomy, who received many awards and was published in over 150 publications of scientific and astronomical journals. He travelled world-wide presenting his research and findings from Institute of Physics in Paris, France to New Zealand.

He was a member of American Astronomical Society. Stephan loved to travel; marveling at the beauty of the Earth as he did professionally at the universe.

Besides his loving wife, he is survived by a daughter, Janice Price and her husband, Daniel Tully of Tyngsboro, MA, a granddaughter, Maya Wilson of Tyngsboro, MA, and a brother-in-law, John and Linda Terpay of Pasadena, MD.

He was the brother of the late Betty McCullough of Las Vegas, NV, who died August, 2012.
