Thomas E. Beane
Beloved husband, father, grandfather
LOWELL -- Thomas Emmett Beane, 77, passed away on Tuesday, July 23, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Ann L. "Nancy" (Gallagher) Beane, having celebrated their 52nd Anniversary. They were married at the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell on September 17, 1960.
Born in Lowell on April 6, 1936, son of the late Thomas J. and Mary T. (Flynn) Beane, he was a life-long resident of Lowell growing up in the Grove section of Lowell and a member of the Sacred Heart Church while later residing in Belvidere for more than 52 years.
Mr. Beane was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister there.
He received his early education at Sacred Heart School and graduated from Keith Academy in Lowell, Class of 1955.
Mr. Beane served 15 years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard Reserves from 1954 to 1969, retiring as Staff Sergeant -Troop B, 1st Squadron, 26th Yankee Infantry Division.
He was employed with the Courier Citizen Corp. of Lowell for over 38 years and later worked at Saints Medical Center in Lowell in the Transport Department.
Tom was very active in youth baseball and for many years he was a Coach and Manager of the Shedd Park Minor League Twins. No matter how many years went by he could always recall the names and faces of the many players that he coached. He later served as President of the League.
Mr. Beane was an active member of the Friends of Lowell High School in the organization's formative years. He was also a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks for 47 years and was recognized as a Life Member.
Tom was an avid sports enthusiast, following the Celtics, Red Sox, Patriots and Bruins. He was a Celtic's season ticket holder from 1957-1963 and saw their many championship years. Locally, he always kept a close eye on high school sports, and followed the Lowell Spinners Baseball team. He was one of the early season ticket holders of the Spinners when they began playing at Alumni Field.
Tom loved music; especially the big band sounds and kept a large inventory of albums from the big band era. "Sing, Sing, Sing" by Benny Goodman was his favorite which he would whistle regularly while Frank Sinatra was his favorite vocalist. With his extensive knowledge of that musical era he was often called upon for trivia and "Name that Tune". He seldom could be stumped!
He thoroughly enjoyed his fall vacations in Maine and other New England areas along with several excursions to Florida.
Tom was a very out-going and witty gentleman who thoroughly enjoyed interacting with people. You could always find Tom in a crowd as he was always whistling or sharing a laugh with someone. He will always be remembered for his big bright blue eyes, his wonderful smile, and great sense of humor. But what Tom loved more than anything in this world, was spending time and sharing a conversation with this best friend and the love of his life, his wife Nancy. Even when it was clear that his health was failing he would instantly light up when he saw his wife, Nancy. Together, they shared great times and created many wonderful memories.
Tom is survived, and will be deeply missed by his beloved wife and his three sons, Thomas P. Beane and his wife, Deborah; Captain, Robert C. Beane of the Lowell Fire Department and his wife, Jean Marie; Attorney, Lawrence M. Beane and his wife, Tracy. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Kelly, Robert, Taylor, Erin and Ryan Beane; his sister, Mary T. (Beane) Gaudette and her husband, Robert Gaudette; his brother-in law, Paul E. Gallagher and his wife, Mary; his nieces and nephews, Ann Marie Beaulieu and her husband, Gary; James Gaudette, who was also his god-child, and his wife, Susan; Richard Gaudette and his wife, Gloria; Paul Gaudette; Michael Gaudette and his wife, Tina; David Gaudette and his wife, Lisa; his many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, good friends, and his lifelong dear friend, John Quealey.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the care and comfort given to Tom by Saints Medical Center, The Blaire House of Tewksbury, and especially to Dr. George Meltsakos for his exceptional care of Tom over the years and the special bond he and Tom shared.
