William (Bill) J. McCarthy
formerly of Dracut, Mass and Clearwater, FL
LOWELL, MA -- William (Bill) J. McCarthy 89, formerly of Dracut Mass and Clearwater, FL, passed away Monday June 17th, at D'Youville Manor Senior Care Center in Lowell, peacefully.
William was born in Lowell, MA on June 2, 1924, the son of the late Yvonne (Lepine) and Stephen P. McCarthy. He was educated in the Lowell School System. He also served in the Merchant Marines during World War ll delivering supplies to troops in Europe.
Mr. McCarthy is retired from the New England Power Service Company after 39 years as an electrician, and remained a lifelong member of the IBEW. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, golfing, watching the Red Sox play the Devil Ray, the Patriots, crossword puzzles and reading. He especially enjoyed meeting with his friends for morning coffee at McDonalds.
He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Charette) (Desmarais) McCarthy and was also predeceased by his wife Rita (Castellano) McCarthy in 1973. William is survived and will be deeply missed by his children, Stephen McCarthy and his wife Linda of Methuen, Colleen Sullivan and her husband Ed of Dracut, Mary Lou Picardi and her husband Richard of Lowell , Maureen Miloro and her husband Phil of Derry, NH, Christine Neary and her husband Robert of Pelham, NH, his stepson James A. Desmarais and his wife Michelle of Dracut, and step daughter Judith A. Erekson of Clearwater, FL.
He is also survived by his loving grandchildren. Including James A. Desmarais Jr. and his wife Roxanne, Lisa Millenazzo and husband Dean, Britt Blume and husband Ty, Jason Smith, Tiffany Smith, Courtney Mitchell and husband Adam, Megan Breen and husband Jay, William Picardi, Stephen Picardi, Michael Picardi and wife Ana, Sarah McCarthy, Sean McCarthy, Moira Neary, Nicholas Neary, and Martin Deluca.
He is also survived by his brother George Mccarthy and his wife Shirley of Lowell and Stephen Mccarthy of Pelham NH. He is also survived by 11 great-grand children and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters Mary Mckinnon and Helen Goyette, and son-in-law Roger Erekson.
MCCARTHY -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT on Friday June 21st. His funeral Mass will take place at 9:00 AM. on Saturday June 22nd at St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Tyngsboro. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the
