Gary Giuffrida Obituary

Gary E. Giuffrida
of Lowell

LOWELL -- Gary (Boo Boo) Giuffrida, 62, a lifelong resident of Lowell, MA, passed peacefully Christmas morning. While he fought a very short battle with cancer, he fought a lifelong battle with addiction.

Born in Lowell, he was the youngest of seven children of the late Dominico and Virginia Giuffrida.

He worked as a hot topper for most of his life for various paving companies in and around Lowell, where his favorite job was driving the trucks.

Boo Boo was one of the subjects of the HBO Documentary "High On Crack Street, Lost Lives in Lowell". It chronicled his lifelong battle with addiction.

Most importantly though, he lived for his family and friends whom he would do anything for if given the chance. He was a die hard New England sports fan, and those that knew him best know he was most comfortable around the boxing ring.

Boo Boo is survived by Gail Rawnsley - formerly of Dracut, Donald Giuffrida of Lowell, MA, Grace Herbert and her husband, Wayne of Gilford, NH, and Philip Giuffrida and his wife, Jodie of Lowell, MA. He was the Uncle to many nieces and nephews but had a very special bond with Susan Rawnsley, Nicholas Giuffrida and Jessie Giuffrida. He also leaves behind many special Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and very close friends.

He was the brother of the late Joseph Giuffrida and Kathryn Neels.

GIUFFRIDA -- Gary (Boo Boo) E. Giuffrida of Lowell died Dec. 25, 2016. Visitation will be Fri. 5 to 6 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 6 p.m. at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, MA.

I just watched the documentary and wanted to pass my regards onto Gary´s family and friends. It takes such courage and strength to live with such a terrible infliction such as addiction. I hope he found peace eventually. I send my thoughts and prayers to you all.

Wow! Gary, (BooBoo)you were one of my uncles. You practically lived at my grandparents house. (Marie and Frank Cody) My Uncle Pat lived with my mom and Dad, you there as well. There was only a 3 years difference between Pat and I, So all his friends were my friends. I got married and left Lowell. You had a special place in my heart. Always loved you. My 2 uncles Patrick and Dennis went before you to see the Lord. I am sure you had a great reunion. I pray for your family. Knowing now that you are finally not fighting this awful battle anymore, and is giving them peace, knowing that you are safe in the arms of Jesus. Just think,Right behind Jesus, there was all of your family that went before you, and was there all my family that knew you was there as well Amen !

I will miss you, my friend.
I was asked to be in your wedding many years ago....which I accepted, because of our friendship.
I enjoyed you visiting our family at our campsite in Salisbury, Beach.
You will always be my friend, Gary......I will think of you often, and know you are free.
Love always,
Kristin

Gary
I know your life on earth was trouble
and only you could know the pain. You weren't afraid to face the devil ,you were no stranger to the rain.Go rest high on the mountain Son your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a -shoutin Love for the father and the son . My friend everyone that knew you knows that you had a great heart for your family and friends. Some of us get sobriety and hold on for dear life and some of us wrestle with it until we pass. You were a good friend to me and my family and I will miss your friendship and your stories. May GOD watch over you and help your family with their loss.

Will always love ya Uncle Boo, sad I don't have you to put my boyfriends in check anymore. You will always be the best story teller in the family. All didn't get to see how much you loved us but we know it and that's what matters most. Just wish for one more Big Boo hug. You will never be forgotten.
