LOWELL, MA -- Mr. Albert "Gus" Gutknecht, 92, a lifelong resident of Lowell, MA, died Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013, at Buckley Healthcare Center in Greenfield, MA.
He was married to Mrs. Vivian (O'Brien) Gutknecht with whom he celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary on September 2, 2012.
Gus was the son of the late Louis and Bertha Gutknecht. He was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1939.
He was employed in his early years during WWII at the S. Boston Naval Ship Yard, and later with the Department of Defense as a Machinist, he was also the owner and operator of Gutknecht Lincoln Street Garage in Lowell.
Gus was a member of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, the Lowell Motorboat Club, New England Inboard Hydroplane Racing, the American Powerboat Assoc, and the Bay State Old Timers Racing Assoc.
Besides his wife, Vivian, he is survived by three daughters and four sons-in-law, Donna and Frank Pioli of Leesburg, FL, Diane and Michael Ahearn of Waterboro, ME, Gail and Dennis May of Rowe, MA, and Leo Landry of Auburn, MA, a sister, Louise Bogden of Burlington, VT; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; as well as several nieces, nephews, and close family friends.
He was the father of the late Cynthia Landry of Lowell who died in Dec. of 2004, the grandfather, of the late Brian Vega who died Dec. of 2003, and the brother of the late Harold Gutknecht of Lowell who died in 1962.
GUTKNECHT -- Albert "Gus" Gutknecht, 92, of Lowell, died Feb. 6, 2013. His wake will be Mon. 12 Noon to 1 PM followed by a Funeral Service at 1PM at the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, MA.
