MAYNARD -- Ann (Landry) Jones, 75, of Maynard, formerly of Acton, died after a long period of declining health on Thurs., Dec. 12th, 2013, at Wingate Healthcare of Sudbury. She was the beloved wife of the late William R. Jones, who died in 1992.
Born in River Bourgeois, Nova Scotia, she was last surviving of nine children of the late Simon P. Sr. and Catherine (Fougere) Landry. A graduate of Acton High School Class of 1957, she was a resident of the town for 45 years before moving to Maynard.
An active community volunteer, for over 20 years, Mrs. Jones was an instrumental member of the Acton Emergency Management Agency/Civil Defense and served as an Associate Advisor for the Acton Explorer Post #7. A charter member of the Acton Boy Scouts of America, she helped organize and attended the annual Isaac Davis Jamboree held on Patriot's Day weekend. In early years, she was a member of the Acton Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary Fire Rehabilitation Team member and shelter specialist.
An avid bowler, she was longtime member of the Acton-Boxborough Couples League, and served as Treasurer of the Tuesday AM Bowling League of Stow. Through the years, Mrs. Jones to help organize and be a part of of the social events in the area, including the Acton High School Reunion Committee, Acton's 250th Celebration, the annual Maynard Christmas Parade, the Acton-Boxborough New Year's Celebration, West Acton Oktoberfest, and many events at NARA.
She is survived by four daughters, Maureen Landry and husband, Charles of Ayer, Kim Jones of Largo, FL, Carole Mills of Gilford, VT, and Donna Savage and husband, James "J.T." of Largo, FL; six grandchildren, Tyler and Ryan Landry, Amanda and Jimmy Mills, and Faithann and Genevieve Savage; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
She was the sister of the late Simon Jr., Leo, Richard, Charles, Walter and Theresa Landry, Hattie Deveau, and Clair Jacobs.
JONES -- Visiting hours are Sun., Dec. 15th from 4:00-8:00 pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte. 111), Acton. Funeral services are Mon., Dec. 16th at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Acton, will be at a later date.
