of Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD, MA -- Anthony L. Sousa, 90, of East Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, February 14, 2013.

A lifelong resident of East Chelmsford, Tony was born September 5, 1922 in Lowell, MA, to Manuel J. and Isabel (Perreira) Sousa.

For 37 years, Tony was married to his beloved wife, Marjorie E. Sousa until her death in 1985.

He was a graduate of Chelmsford High School.

Anthony was a veteran of World War II having served in the Navy on the U.S.S. New Jersey.

Anthony had a long and successful career at the Chelmsford Highway Department from which he retired in 1986.

He enjoyed family gatherings, going to the race track, and gardening.

He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Morrison and her husband, James, who was Tony's caregiver; four brothers, Michael Sousa and James Sousa of East Chelmsford, MA, John Sousa of Ayer, MA, and Alfred Sousa of Billerica, MA; a sister, Isabel McGonigle of Chelmsford, MA; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Tony was pre-deceased by his two daughters, Elizabeth (Betty) Sousa and Linda R. Pennisi; his brothers, Albert Sousa and Manuel Sousa; sisters, Mary Roddy, Aureila (Jeanne), Clarice, and Angeline.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Beacon Hospice for their loving care and support.

SOUSA -- Anthony Sousa, of Chelmsford, MA, died February 14, 2013. Visiting hours Mon. 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Tues. at 8 AM from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 9 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church in N. Chelmsford.
