DRACUT -- Arthur J. "Tussy" Russell, 69, 34 year veteran of the Lowell Police Department, died at D'Youville Senior Care Center, Monday morning, November 26th surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary E. "Betty" Russell.
He was born on January 16, 1943 in Peabody, MA, son of the late Arthur J. "Tussy" Russell and Louise W. (Moore) Russell. Tussy was educated in Tewksbury and was a graduate of Tewksbury High School and then received a degree from Lowell Tech and Anna Maria College.
Tussy proudly served his country in the U. S. Army, during the Korean War era until being honorably discharged.
For 34 years, Tussy served as a Lowell Police Officer until retiring on March 15, 2002. He loved his job and did it proudly. After retirement, he then continued to work for the Tewksbury Police Department.
Tussy was the Vice President of Massachusetts Police Association, and was a member the Massachusetts Retirement Board, Tewksbury Elks, and the East End Club. He was also a basketball coach in Tewksbury for many years. He loved to travel, especially taking his children and grandchildren to Disney, one of his favorite places. He loved his family greatly and always enjoyed spending time with them.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his three sons, Peter Russell of Danvers, Paul Russell and his wife Marisol of Hudson, NH, and Joseph Russell and his wife Tracey of PA; his stepchildren, Nicole Lapointe and her husband Dan Moskwa of Goffstown, NH, and David Marotto of Manchester, NH; his grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Joseph, Austin, Olivia, Colton, and Stacia; his step-grandchildren Max, Genevieve, and Elijah; as well as his nephew John Russell and his wife Lisa of Wakefield, MA. He is predeceased by his sister Jean Russell.
RUSSELL -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut, MA on Thursday, November 29th from 2 until 7 PM. His Funeral will take place from the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. with his Funeral Mass to follow at St. Francis Church in Dracut at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery, Tewksbury.
