LOWELL -- Mr. Douglas B. Allaby, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Sunday, surrounded by his loving family, aged 75 years. He was the loving husband to Gertrude (Smith) Allaby, with whom he would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on July 2nd of this year.

Born in Lowell on July 29, 1934, the son of the late Lawson and Dora (Gambel) Allaby. He received his education in the Lowell school system.

Douglas worked for the former Colonial Gas Company and for 26 years, as a supervisor; before his retirement.

According to family members, he enjoyed playing cards, especially cribbage. Doug loved spending time working on his computer.

His family would like to thank Lowell Hospice especially his nurse, Lee Machado for taking great care of Doug.

Besides his loving wife, Gertrude, he is survived by five sons, Douglas P. Allaby and his wife, Patricia of Dracut, Paul Allaby of Ohio, Bruce Allaby and his wife, Dorothy of Lowell, Dale Allaby and his wife, Michelle of Manchester, NH, and Eric Allaby of Lowell; one daughter, Kathy and Rick Luppold of Methuen; six adored grandchildren, Craig, Ryan, Leah, Dale, Kerri, Rebecca, and Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Jacob; several nieces and nephews.

He was the brother to the late Raymond, Frank, Harry and Norman Allaby, and Lillian Howe, and his twin sister, Dorothy Proulx.

ALLABY -- Mr. Douglas B. Allaby, a resident of Lowell, died Sunday, April 25th in Lowell, after an extended illness, age 75 years. Husband of Gertrude (Smith) Allaby. There will be no calling hours. Friends who wish may make Memorial donations in his name to Greater Lowell Hospice, P.O. Box 1965, Lowell, MA 01853. Funeral Service will be private. Funeral Directors Frederick W.
