DRACUT -- Eva (Blatus) Panagis, 93, died on Friday, February 22, 2013 at D'Youville Senior Care surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Serges Panagis who predeceased her in 1995.
Eva was born on December 26, 1919 in Lowell, MA. She was the daughter of Greek Orthodox immigrants; the late William Blatus and Irene (Klemankos) Blatus. Eva was a graduate of the Lowell Vocational High School. At her Graduation Ceremony, she received an award for designing and sewing the best graduation dress.
When she entered the work force, she joined Lowell Dress Company, where she worked for many years. In 1960, she graduated from Lowell Hairdressing Academy. She enjoyed a long career at Beauty Creators in Downtown Lowell, as one of the most requested stylists.
Eva and her late husband owned and operated Panagis Greenhouses, where many local residents came to purchase some of the best grown plants and vegetables. In her free time, she was active in town politics and mailed many "Dear Friend" cards and enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell and their Philoptochos Society as well as a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Dracut. She was extremely proud of her Orthodox Religion, heritage and loving family.
She is survived by her brothers, Michael Blatus and his wife, Antoinette of Dracut, and Nickoles Blatus and his wife, Antonia of Dracut; her brother-in-law, Steve Papanotas of Dracut; her nieces and nephews, Irene and George Kaltsas, Michael and Melissa Blatus, Katherine and Richard Maille, Georgia and Gary Demopoulos, Maria and Brian Murphy, Evie and Mark Ivos, William Blatus, Stephen Blatus, Angela Blatus, Peter and Karen Blatus, Michael and Ching-Chi Blatus, Andrew and Agnes Blatus, Thespo 'Bess' and Jim Xinidakis; as well as several grandnieces and grandnephews, and Godchildren, whom she loved with all her heart and she called them her Sweethearts.
She is predeceased by her brother-in-law, Michael Panagis, and her sister, Angeline 'Kike' Papanotas.
Eva's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at D'Youville Senior Care for the exceptional care and support provided to Eva and her family for the past two years.
PANAGIS -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Tuesday, February 26th from 4 until 8 PM. Her Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 27th at 9 AM followed by her Funeral Service at 10 AM in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, Dracut. Interment to follow in Westlawn Cemetery in Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eva's name to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 1160 Mammoth Road, Dracut, MA 01826.
