Beloved husband, father, and grandfather
LOWELL -- Frederick A. Hickey, D.M.D., 86, of Lowell, died peacefully Friday, November 9, 2012, at his home with his family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of Muriel (Gilet) Hickey with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born February 19, 1926, in Lowell, he was a son of the late Michael F. Hickey and the late Susan (McGuane) Hickey, both born in Ireland.
A lifelong Lowell resident, Fred was a graduate of Keith Academy and a United States Navy Veteran, serving his country during WWII. He continued his education graduating from The University of Notre Dame and Tufts University School of Dental Medicine.
He practiced dentistry in Lowell for over 40 years before his retirement. He was also a life member of the Merrimack Valley Dental Association and the American Dental Association.
Dr. Hickey was a longtime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Parish.
He enjoyed reading, travel, and the stock market. He was also a passionate fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Boston Red Sox.
Besides his wife, Muriel, he is survived by their five children, Frederick Hickey and his wife, Kathy of Nashua, NH, Michael Hickey and his wife, Nancy of Wellesley, David Hickey and his wife, Alison of Houston, Texas, Myriam O'Neill and her husband, John of Chelmsford, and Anne Marie Hickey of New York City, NY; a sister, Theresa Sliney of Framingham; and eight grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Pauline, Jack, Clare, Michael, Christopher and Tom.
