WWII Veteran and Honorary Lifetime Director of the Tewksbury Community Pantry

TEWKSBURY -- Gordon Thompson Bryant, 94, a longtime resident of Tewksbury, died Friday, August 10th at his home after a long illness with his loving daughter Leslie by his side. He was the husband of the late Constance "Connie" (Holt) Bryant.

He was born in Newton on December 18, 1917, and was a son of the late Herbert E. and Jennie S. (Bryant) LeGanger. He received his education in Clarendon, NH and was a graduate of Kimball Union Academy, class of 1937. He earned his bachelor's degree in science from Boston University.

Gordon proudly served two tours of duty in Europe in the United States Army during World War II. His proudest accomplishment was achieving Med Tech grade doing slide tests for diphtheria while serving in the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF) under General Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was a member of the DAV Post 110 in Tewksbury.

Prior to his retirement at the age of 70, he was employed for many years as a chemical reactor operator by General Latex in Billerica. He later went on to work part time at Analog Devices in Wilmington for two years.

At the age of 72 he became a founding member of what is now the Tewksbury Community Pantry. He was a familiar face around town collecting money for this cause.

Gordon was a very active member in all phases of the Tewksbury Congregational Church all throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughter, Leslie (Bryant) Bufano with whom he resided. He was also the brother of the late Bryant Lee LeGanger.

BRYANT -- Visiting hours will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD, on Wednesday from 2 until 4PM. His Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 15th at 2 o'clock at the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East Street, Tewksbury. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Gordon's name to the Tewksbury Community Pantry, 999 Whipple Rd., Tewksbury, MA 01876 or to the Tewksbury Congregational Church, 10 East St., Tewksbury, MA 01876.
