Howard 'Howdy' P. Clapp
of Groton, avid NASCAR fan; 68
GROTON -- Howard 'Howdy" P. Clapp, 68, a lifelong resident of Groton, passed away June 11, 2013, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Groton, MA on June 9, 1945 to the late George H. and Mae (McCain) Clapp.
In his early years he worked as a school bus driver, firefighter and on the Ambulance Service for the Town of Groton. For the past 25 years, he was a self employed truck driver and owned his own company, H. Clapp Trucking, Inc.
Howard was an avid race car driver and small block super modified car owner. He loved watching Dave Sanborn race his car who became like a son to him. He spent most of his life at Lee Speedway and Hudson Speedway in New Hampshire. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Besides racing he loved camping, cookouts and spending time with his family.
His greatest love was for his wife of 48 years and his daughters and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Hall) Clapp of Groton; three daughters, Kimberly Ladd and husband, Roland of Unity, Maine, Melissa Rice and husband, Robert of Greenville, NH, and Georgette Clapp of Groton, MA; two sisters, Lillian Alcott of Groton, and Kathleen Brown of S. Carolina; as well eight grandchildren, Michael Young, Joseph Gonsalves, Cody Cummiskey, Shasta Rice, Robert Rice Jr, Ryan Rice, Shelby Harkins, Edward Harkins; as well as several nieces and nephews; and many close personal friends; and his beloved dogs.
CLAPP -- of Groton Howard (Howdy) P. Clapp, 68, a lifelong resident of Groton, passed away June 11, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. A Funeral Service will be held 5 PM Friday at the Badger Funeral Home, 45 School St., Groton followed by a visitation till 8 PM.. Burial will be Private. Please see www.badgerfuneral.com
