of Chelmsford

CHELMSFORD -- James Edward "Eddie" Clancy Jr., 81, of Chelmsford, MA, died Wednesday, January 2, 2013 surrounded by his family - after a short illness.

He was married to Carolyn (O'Connell) Clancy with whom he celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on April 6th.

Born in Lowell on October 2, 1931, Eddie was a son of the late James E. and Lillian (Conniff) Clancy. He was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1949 and later graduated from both Lowell Textile and Peterson School of Engineering.

He served with the U.S Army during the Korean War as a Corporal at the HQ Special Troop Command, Fort Benning, GA.

Eddie was a licensed Master Gas Fitter and Master Steam Fitter with local 537 of Boston since 1952. He worked as a Project Manager for P.J. Riley & Co. for over 50 years where he supervised the process piping construction of many of the large power plants and fuel handling facilities in New England. Additionally, he was appointed and was currently active as a Technical Representative of the National Certified Pipe Welding Bureau.

His greatest joys in life were his wife, Carolyn, his four children and his 14 grandchildren. Eddie was also an avid and loyal New England Patriots fan and season ticket holder for over 40 years.

He was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church of Chelmsford, member of the Holy Name Society, and member of the St. John's Building Committee. He also was a member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks.

In addition to his wife, Eddie is survived by his son, James E. Clancy III and his wife, Susan of Chelmsford; three daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and William Downing of Tyngsboro, Eileen and Nelson Gagnon of Tyngsboro, and MaryBeth and Jay Cole of Tyngsboro; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Helen Clancy of Lowell; a sister, Judith Dunlay of Chelmsford; 14 grandchildren, Amanda Downing, Caitlin Downing, Michael Gagnon and his wife, Kiersten, Caroline Gagnon, James E. Clancy IV and his wife, Christine, Michael Clancy, Kathryn Clancy, Matthew Clancy, John Clancy, Ryan Cole, Thomas Cole, Joshua Cole, Andrew Cole, Jennifer (Cole) Wilson and her husband, Gerard; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four sisters, Beverly Fay, Patricia McKenna, Shirley Clancy, and Mary Clancy.

CLANCY -- James Edward "Eddie" Clancy Jr., of Chelmsford, MA, died Jan. 2, 2013. Visiting hours Sunday 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 106 MIDDLESEX ST., CHELMSFORD, with a funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church 115 Middlesex St. Chelmsford, MA 01863.
