LOWELL -- Jennie (Sperounis) Maguire, wife of James Thomas Maguire and youngest child of Kiriakoulis and Stella Sperounis passed away at home on January 6. Jennie was born in Dracut, MA in 1925 and was married to Lowell police officer James for 51 years. They lived on Hovey Street in the Belvidere section of Lowell. Jennie graduated from Dracut High School and worked for many years as an executive secretary at Norcross & Leighton Insurance Company and then in the Nursing Department at the University of Lowell.

Jennie was an officer and committed volunteer for many organizations. Among others, she was active in the Ladies Philoptochos Society of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell, the Daughters of Penelope, and also enjoyed her work with Altrusa International and was honored as Past President. She was a gracious, disciplined and hard working woman who loved politics and was an ardent Democrat. She was mother to Kathleen (Kate) Maguire and lived for the past 8 years with Kate and her husband Eric Hill in Richmond, MA. Her son, James Thomas Jr. lives in Londonderry, NH with his wife Erica and adored grandaughter Gracie. She was also Yiayia and proud mentor to Kate's children: twins Emelia (Emma) and Isadora Wolfe and Alexander Hill. During the past year, she was excited and happy to attend Isadora's wedding to Joseph Poulson and watch Emma earn the position of Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for New York City. Grandson and Syracuse University sophomore Alexander never was far from her attention or devoted care. She leaves her children, grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Jennie was predeceased by her parents, brothers; Nicholas, William, Spiro, sisters; Dora, Della, Mary and Irene and her husband Jimmie.
