Joseph P. Jesus
of Dracut, Army Vet; 87

DRACUT -- Joseph P. Jesus, 87, passed away peacefully on December 7th, 2012, at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the husband of Lillian C. (Daigle) Jesus, who passed away in 1999.

Joseph was born in Dracut on June 28, 1925, a son of the late Ludvina and Antonio Texeira Jesus. He received his education in the Dracut school system, and then proudly served his country in the Army Airborne in WWII. "Papa Joe", as he was known by most, enlisted in the Army in 1944. He began in the Glider Corps, and then decided that jumping out of a plane was superior to crash landing in one, so he volunteered to be a paratrooper. While he was in embarkation camp in France, he sustained injuries to his legs, requiring over a year and half recuperation in hospitals in England and Fort Devens.

After being honorably discharged, he went on to become a master woodworker. He was a highly skilled craftsman, producing beautiful furniture and other works of art. To say that he was good at his craft would be an understatement. Everyone in the furniture business was aware of Joe's talents, and would not let anyone else repair the furniture they sold. He was quite simply the best.

Joe was the type of man who could do anything, with his favorite pastime, as well as his vocation, as a craftsman in furniture and wood. He spent his life doing what he loved, working on and repairing furniture. In his spare time and after retirement, he devoted his time to creating unique works of art in wood. From intarsia creations to scale model wooden aircraft to marquetry, wood sculptures and carvings, his talent was amazing. Joe was also a lifelong auto racing fan, following local racers at area tracks, as well as attending races across the country. At the tracks, he always enjoyed the "sausage and peppers" subs!
Joe and his wife, Lillian raised five successful children, and they were proud of them all. He is survived by his children, Roberta A. Kithcart and her husband, Jack of Glendale, AZ, Stephen Jesus and his wife, Pattie of Dracut, Daniel A. Jesus of Dracut, and Donna Nabower of Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren, Erica, Amanda (and her husband, Travis Timmerman), and Tiffany O'Neil and Jocelyn and Katie Jesus and their mother, Kim; as well as his sister, Mary F. Moran of N. Chelmsford.

Joe was also fortunate to share the love of Charlotte Bornholdt in his later years. His laughter, common sense, curiosity, friendship, enjoyment of life, and stories will be cherished by everyone who knew him.

Joseph was predeceased by his son, Joseph D. Jesus, and his brother, Tony Jesus.
