LOWELL Mrs. Kathryn A. (Cadigan) Barrett, 74, of South Lowell, died unexpectedly at her home, Tuesday November 24, 2009. She was the wife of the late David J. Barrett Jr. with whom she was married for 47 years.
She was born in Charlestown, MA, July 6, 1935 a daughter of the late Francis Cadigan. Kathryn received her early education in the Charlestown School System and was a graduate of Charlestown High School with the Class of 1953.
Kathryn met David after he returned home from the Korean War, and they married on Valentine's Day in 1955.
In the early 1970's, she along with her husband, settled in Lowell to raise their family, and she worked in the Maintenance Dept. at Hanscom Field Air Base in Bedford.
Mrs. Barrett was a communicant of the former Sacred Heart Parish in South Lowell.
Kathryn loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, especially playing poker, and watching scary movies. She was a very dedicated homemaker right up until her illness.
Survived by two loving daughters, Donna Mendonca and her husband, Izidro of Tewksbury, and Diana L. Strykowski of Lowell; four sons, David J. Barrett III of Las Vegas, Thomas Barrett of Seattle, Francis Barrett, James Barrett and his wife, Elena, all of Lowell; two sisters-in-law, Ginger Quinn of Malden, and Dorothy Barrett of Wilmington; a brother-in-law, John Barrett and his wife, Leona of Everett; 10 grandchildren, Kimberly Couillard, Barry Strykowski, Kasey Strykowski, and Michael Barrett, all of Lowell, Matthew Barrett and Scott Barrett, both of Dracut, Salvador Mendonca, and Vanessa Mendonca, both of Tewksbury, Jesse Barrett and Sean Barrett, both of Las Vegas; two great-granddaughters, Meghan and Nicole.
Mrs. Barrett was also the mother of the late Michael L. Barrett.
