TYNGSBOROUGH, MA -- Leah J. (Hutchinson) Colburn, 78, died peacefully, Wednesday, October 17th, at Lowell General Hospital, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Kenneth D. Colburn whom she married in 1956.
Born in Lowell, MA on July 1, 1934, Leah was the daughter of the late Edna (Ashton) and Elroy Hutchinson. Leah was raised and educated in Dracut, and was a graduate of Dracut High School where she earned a varsity letter on the cheer-leading squad. Growing up, Leah had a strong love for dancing and acrobatics, fostered by her sister Edna. Leah and her husband had a passion for skiing that they have passed on to their children and grandchildren.
Leah worked at Hibbard Trucking, MIT Lincoln Labs, Tyngsborough High School, and was the Assistant Tax Collector for the town of Tyngsborough until her retirement in 2001.
A faithful servant of God, Leah was a active member of Christ Church United in Dracut, where she served on various committees and sang in the Chancel Choir. She loved singing in the Christmas Cantata each year. Leah, an active volunteer, was an original member and Treasurer of the Tyngsborough Scholarship Foundation at which she helped raise ten's of thousands of dollars for the youth of her town.
Leah was loved and predeceased by her siblings, Idris "Hutchie" Garnett, Earl Hutchinson, Edna Finney and Walter Hutchinson.
Along with her husband, Kenneth, Leah is survived and will be deeply missed by her 3 children, Kerry L. Colburn-Dion and her husband John R. Dion of Tyngsborough, Jeffery A. Colburn of Uxbridge, MA and Scott Elger Colburn of Dallastown, PA. She is also survived by her 5 beloved grandchildren, Tristan and Tenley Dion and Neve, MacKenzie, and Emellyth Cromer-Colburn, as well as many nieces and nephews.
COLBURN -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 21st at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut. Her Funeral will take place at Christ Church United, 10 Arlington St., Dracut, on Monday at 10 a.m. All relatives and friends are respectfully invited to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow at Tyngsborough Memorial Cemetery in Tyngsborough.
