CHELMSFORD -- Lee MacNeill, 79, a longtime resident of Chelmsford, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 after a long and courageous battle with heart and kidney disease. He was the beloved husband of Helen K. (Knight) MacNeill, to whom he was married for 55 years.

Lee was born in Hartford, CT on January 21, 1934, and was the eldest son of the late Ulysses Grant and Helene (Thingstrom) MacNeill. He received his education in Willimantic, CT schools and was a graduate of Windham High School, class of 1952. He went on to serve 4 years in the United States Air Force and three years in the reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1960. Lee served in the Korean Conflict stationed in Japan and Formosa. Following his discharge from the USAF he graduated from Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, DC. He was employed by Raytheon Co, Waltham, as an electronic technician/engineer and later at MITRE Corp. Burlington.

Lee was a longstanding member of the Chelmsford Lodge of Elks (BPOE 2310), the Chelmsford Tennis Club and the Rod and Gun Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, boating, deep sea fishing off Cape Cod, antique and classic cars, chess, tennis, and stamp collecting.

In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by his brother, Richard MacNeill and his wife Anita of Marshfield; his nephew Phillip and niece Lisa, both of the South Shore.

The family would like to thank the many healthcare providers whose care, personal attention, and love helped Lee over the last several years.
