Loving mother, grandmother, and sister; 80
LOWELL -- Maria A. (Colon) Baez, 80, of Lowell, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at Saints Medical Center in Lowell after a brief illness.
She was the widow of the late Alejandro Baez Sr. who died in 1994.
Born August 26, 1931, in Comerio, Puerto Rico, she was a daughter of the late Octavio and the late Castula (Cosme) Colon, and grew up and was educated in Puerto Rico. In 1972, she moved with her family to Lowell.
She made her home in the Pawtucketville Section of the City, and was a member of the former Nuestra Senora del Carmen Parish, and a communicant of St. Patrick Church.
Maria enjoyed playing Bingo at local churches, and playing the Lottery, but her favorite pastime was spending time with her large family.
She is survived by her children, Gloria Baez, Olivia Maldonado and her husband, Carlos, Angel Baez of Lowell, Jose Luis Baez of Lowell, Nilda Huff and her husband, Paul, Luis R. Baez, Luis A. Baez, and Armando Baez, all of Lowell, Hector Baez of Lawrence, Alberto Baez of Jamestown, NY, Luz M. Baez of Amesbury, and Luisa A. Rivera of Virginia Beach, VA; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren; several sisters and several brothers; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was also the mother of the late Alejandro Baez Jr., the late Jorge Baez, the late Miguel Baez, and grandmother of the late Charles McCullough.
BAEZ -- YOU ARE INVITED TO HER CALLING HOURS 2 UNTIL 6 P.M. ON SUNDAY, OCT. 30. ON MONDAY, HER FUNERAL WILL BEGIN AT 9 A.M. AT THE MCDONOUGH FUNERAL HOME, 14 HIGHLAND STREET, LOWELL, 978-458-6816. HER FUNERAL MASS WILL BE OFFERED AT ST. PATRICK CHURCH AT 10 A.M. BURIAL IN LOWELL CEMETERY.
