Loving husband, father, and grandfather
Mounir "Manny" I. Ansara, of Charlotte, NC, formerly a longtime resident of Lowell, MA, passed away on November 8, 2012, after a courageous battle with renal failure and heart disease.
He was the beloved husband of Diana L. (Deeb) Ansara for 31 years. He was also the husband of the late Hazel Frances (Wilkinson) for 24 years.
Born in Jerusalem, Palestine, on March 23, 1931, a son of the late Issa and Mary (Kuttab) Ansara, Mounir immigrated to Lowell with his family on June 25, 1956.
Mr. Ansara worked at Raytheon, and then at the Bedford VA Hospital as a Maintenance Supervisor, before transferring to the VA Hospital in California prior to his retirement.
Mounir was a renowned soccer player in the Middle East before immigrating to the U. S. During his early years in Lowell, he was known for his outstanding soccer skills while playing for the former Greek Hellenic Club on Broadway Street. Later, he was a member of the over thirty soccer team in Merrimac, MA. His signature move was a butt trap. At only 5'4", his speed and powerful bullet shots to the goal were unstoppable. Manny especially enjoyed coaching his daughters' youth soccer teams for several years, and led them to win multiple Championships. A talented coach and mentor, he taught the girls great soccer skills and teamwork.
Mounir enjoyed spending time with his family and making friends wherever he went. He loved to read about other countries and cultures, often quoting facts he had learned. He loved to travel, especially to new places.
Besides his loving wife, Diana, he is survived by six children, Issa Ansara and his wife, Joyce (Clement) of Lowell, Peter Ansara and his wife, Cherrie (Chausse) of Tacoma, WA, Paul Ansara and his wife, Laura (Eller) of Charlotte, NC, Mary Keeley and her husband, James of Hollis, NH, Amy Welch and her husband, William of Lyndebourgh, NH, and Ann Farnham and her husband, Damon of Newbury Park, CA; three sisters, Huda Diekmann of Evansville, IN, and Nahil Zananiri and Widad Batten, both of Lowell; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, who will miss his smile and sense of humor dearly.
He was the brother of the late George Ansara and his wife, Georgette, Saliba Ansara, Juliette Ansara and her husband, Michel, and Laurice Bahou and her husband, Farid.
