DRACUT -- Nicholas "Nick" Nicolakakis, 78, died peacefully on February 21, 2013, at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Vasiliki (Mihalochrista) Nicolakakis who have shared 53 years of marriage.
Nick was born on November 16, 1934 in Georgitsi Sparta, Greece. He was the son of the late Ilias Nicolakakis and Demetra (Rasias) Nicolakakis. Prior to moving to the United States, Nick served in the Greek Army as a Para Trooper.
For many years, he worked as a shoe maker at various shoe manufacturing companies throughout the area.
In his free time, he was an avid gardener. He enjoyed flowers and spending time outside. Nick was an extremely generous person and was always willing to help others. But his most cherished time was spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Demetra "Debbie" Pantazelos and her husband, Dionissios "Danny" of Dunstable, Konstantina "Connie Dina" Donohoe and her husband, Paul of Tyngsboro, Athanasia "Soula" Howe and her husband, Michael of Dracut, and Ioulia "Louise" Merrill and her husband, Mark of Dracut; his 10 grandchildren, Nicholas Pantazelos, George Pantazelos and his wife, Nevart, Vasiliki "Bessie" Stamatelopoulos and her husband, Chris, Paul, Matthew and Alexis Donohoe, Michael W. and Shannah Howe and her companion, Gary Reis, Talia and Alexander Merrill; his four siblings, Kyriako Vergados and her husband, Vasilos of Lowell, George Nicolakakis and his wife, Tasia of Andover, Anna Calavritinos of Lowell, and Evangelos Nicolakakis and his wife, Ioanna of Greece; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Nick is predeceased by his two brothers John and Dimitrios Nicolakakis.
NICOLAKAKIS -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut, on Sunday, February 24th from 3 until 7 PM. His Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home on Monday, February 25th at 9 AM followed by his Funeral Service at 10 AM in the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, Lowell. Interment to follow in Westlawn II Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nick's name to the Boston Children Hospital Trust c/o Pediatric Cancer Unit, 401 Park Drive, Suite 602, Boston, MA 02215.
