Nikolaos Hamourgas Obituary
Nikolaos Hamourgas
of Dracut; 63

DRACUT -- Nikolaos Hamourgas, 63, passed away Tuesday April 23rd after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Nick was born July 15, 1949 in Thessaloniki, Greece, a son of the late Efthimios and Penelope (Papanikolopoulou) Hamourgas.

He was educated in Greece at an early age and came to the United States where he graduated from Lowell Tech with a dual major in Economics and Music. At a later point in his career, Nick went on to receive a doctorate in Byzantine Music at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Nick's love and passion was his music. He was the lead singer for various bands throughout the United States and Greece and in 1994 he released an album in Athens. Upon arriving in the United States, one of his first jobs was as a cantor at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Lowell where he was also a longtime member.

Along with his wife Penny, Nick owned and operated the Greek Arts and Gift Store for thirty years and the Worthen House Café for the past twelve years.

The Hamourgas family would like to sincerely thank Dr. George Meltsakos, the staff at Lowell General- Saints Campus, and the VNA of Greater Lowell for their compassion, caring, and professionalism.

Nick leaves his loving wife and partner of twenty-nine years, Penny (Kokkinos) Hamourgas of Dracut; two daughters, Penelope Hamourgas of Boston, Efthimia Hamourgas of Dracut; a sister, Vasiliki Drakopoulos and her husband Dimitrios of Greece; two nephews, George Drakopoulos and Alex "Makis" Drakopoulos; also many family and friends in the United States and in Greece.
