Rev. Normand A. Fillion, OMI

TEWKSBURY, MA -- Rev. Normand Alfred Fillion, OMI, 88, died on January 23, 2013, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence in Tewksbury, MA. He was born on July 14, 1924, in Berlin, NH, and was a son of the late Alderic D. and Antoinette Fillion. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Maurice Fillion, of Lewiston, ME; his brother and sister-in-law, Romeo and Angele Fillion, of Lowell, MA; his sister and brother-in-law, Florence and Rene Nault, of Raymond, NH; and his sister and brother-in-law, Cecile and Real Cloutier, of Berlin, NH.

Fr. Fillion entered the novitiate of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate in Colebrook, NH, on July 15, 1944. He professed his first vows on July 16, 1945, and was ordained to the priesthood in Guardian Angel Church, Berlin, NH, on July 25, 1950, by Bishop Louis Collignon, OMI, Bishop of Les Cayes, Haiti.

He was assigned to St. Jean-Baptiste Province in March, 1951. His first assignment was Curate at St. Jean-Baptiste Parish, Lowell, MA, where he ministered until July of 1961. He then became a spiritual director at St. Joseph the Worker Shrine in downtown Lowell. From August of 1966 to August of 1967 he was Assistant Director at St. Paul Retreat Center in Augusta, ME. He moved to Washington, DC, where he was Director of Finance at St. Charles House until December, 1968. Fr. Fillion's next assignment was to the New Hampshire Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Manchester, NH. His ministry centered on marriage counseling. From July, 2003, to October, 2009, he was in residence at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Manchester. He fully retired in October, 2009, and relocated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence.

Besides his Oblate family, Fr. Fillion is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

FILLION -- Services and calling hours will be in the Chapel at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Residence, 486 Chandler Street, Tewksbury, MA. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm, with a Prayer Service at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 30, 2013. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, 96 Riverneck Road, Chelmsford, MA.
