retired Lowell Police Officer; 80

LOWELL, MA -- Paul Bourgeois, 80, a retired Lowell Police Officer, and lifetime resident of Lowell and a winter resident of Deerfield Beach, Fl. passed away Monday morning, November 19th at his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was married to the love of his life, Maureen (Renie O'Malley) with whom he recently celebrated their 54th anniversary.

He was born in Lowell MA August 6, 1932 to the late Arthur and Helen (Tallard) Bourgeois. Paul was a 1951 Lowell High School graduate. He enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served for 4 years.

Upon his return from the Navy, he worked at Raytheon for 11 years. He joined the Lowell Police Dept. where he served for 34 years as a Patrolman, Juvenile and Criminal Bureaus and a Prosecutor in Lowell District Court before retiring in 1992. During that time Paul went to the University of Lowell (formerly Lowell Tech Inst.) where he received his Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice.

Besides his loving wife he is survived by his children, Lynne Hansen, Paul Bourgeois, Maura Bourgeois and Daniel and his wife Heidi (Friberg) Bourgeois. He loved his grandchildren, Heather Beausoleil, Zachary Hansen, Kate and Will Bourgeois. He was predeceased too soon by his grandson, Casey Hansen and his sister, Doris Greenwood. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many good friends.

Paul was a parishioner of the Imm. Con. Parish. and was a past president, coach and manager for the Callery Park Little League. A lifetime member of the Chelmsford Elks and the East End Club, an avid golfer and longtime member of Long Meadow Golf Club, Paul was a loyal Patriots fan and never missed watching a game. He had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved hosting the many holiday parties and celebrations at his home. Paul will be sadly missed by all of us.

BOURGEOIS -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, November 23rd at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., DRACUT,MA. His funeral will take place from the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 24th with his funeral mass to follow at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Parish in Lowell. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Tewksbury. As an expression of thos who wish may make donations in Paul's name to the Ste.
