ALBURGH, Vermont -- Richard Alan Chase (Alan, Al), 61, resident of Alburgh, Vermont, passed away December 29, 2012, at his home, after a short battle with metastatic bladder cancer.
Alan was born in Ayer, MA on August 2, 1951, the son of Richard E. and Gabrielle A. Chase. Alan attended Ayer High School and graduated in 1969.
Alan married his high school sweetheart, Martha Hemenway of Ayer in 1971. In 1992, they separated and subsequently divorced in 2002.
Alan spent most of his working career at Madigan Lime Corp., in Harvard, MA, as a truck driver hauling and delivering industrial lime throughout the Northeast. Alan loved to drive truck and be "on the road."
He is survived by his former wife, Martha Chase of Devens, MA; a sister, Judy Jarvis of Alburgh, VT; a daughter, Sheri and her husband, Steve Miner of Groton, MA; a son, Shane A. Chase of Devens, MA; and a grandson, Brody Miner of Groton, MA.
Alan was a devoted animal lover. He owned and cared for many pets throughout his life. After learning of his terminal illness, he commented that he would be going soon to be with Smokey, his beloved cat that had recently passed.
Gifts in Alan's memory may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Advancement Dept., 10 Chandler St., Boston, MA 02116. Arrangements are under the direction of The Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton, VT 05488. There will be a private burial in the spring at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ayer, MA.
