SALEM, NH -- Robert F. Burns, 71, of Salem, New Hampshire died on Saturday June 1, 2013 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill with his wife, Barbara by his side. Mr. Burns was born and raised in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell High School. He worked for over 30 years at Textron, Wilmington and also worked with Flagship Press, N. Andover. He retired from Northern Essex Community College. Bob was a member and Past Grand Knight of Monsignor Shea Council of The Knights of Columbus, N. Andover. He participated in Relay for Life and was an avid New England Sports fan and he enjoyed participating in The Eagle Tribune Beat Bert sports competition and was a frequent winner. He enjoyed his summers at Camp Eaton at York Harbor, Maine. Bob was well known for assisting his wife, Barbara as a tour escort and, especially, loved the trips to Atlantic City. Better known as "Grumpy", Bob loved being with his family and grandchildren.
The son of the late James D. and Helen M. (Nestor) Burns, his family members include his wife, Barbara C. (Hassey) Burns of Salem, NH and his daughter, Sue Ann Devine of Salem, NH. He leaves his grandchildren who he resided with, Mary Ellen, Michaela, Kevin and Erin. Bob also leaves his sisters-in-law, Kathy Fionte of Methuen and Sally and her husband, Leslie Laurendeau of N. Andover and his brother-in-law, Ron Hassey and his companion, Janet Baines of N. Andover. He was pre-deceased by his daughter, Mary Ellen Burns and his brother, Thomas Burns.
BURNS -- Calling hours will be on Wednesday June 5, 2013 from 4 to 8 pm at The Goundrey & Dewhirst Funeral Home, 42 Main Street, Salem, NH. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday June 6 at 10:00 am in St. Joseph Church, Salem, NH. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem.
