Resident of Lowell; age 80

LOWELL -- Mrs. Shirley P. (Anderson) Fortin, age 80, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Wilfred J. Fortin who died in 2004.

Born in Lowell, on March 7, 1933, she was a daughter of the late William and Rose (Berube) Anderson.

She was educated in the Lowell school system, and was a parishioner of the former Notre Dame de Lourdes Church.

Shirley was an active member of the Lowell Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed playing bingo, crocheting afghans for cancer patients, and traveling.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a cashier for Market Basket.

She is survived by a son, John D. Fortin of Lowell; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Francyne Anderson of Texas; a sister and brother-in-law, Maureen Dube and her husband, Richard of Dracut; also nieces and nephews.

She was also the mother of the late Thomas W. Fortin who died in 1967, and the sister of the late Robert and William Anderson.

FORTIN -- Mrs. Shirley P. (Anderson) Fortin. It being her request, funeral services were held privately at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Those wishing may make a memorial donation to the VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell, 336 Central St., Lowell, MA 01852 or Lowell General Cancer Center, 295 Varnum Ave. Lowell, MA 01854.
