William Francis Furey -- lifelong Lowell resident; 76 -- LOWELL -- William Francis (Bill) Furey, 76, a lifelong Belvidere resident, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family after a long illness. He was the beloved husband of Helen J. (Bonczar) Furey. A son of the late William F. Furey and the late Mary (McGovern) Furey, he was born February 12, 1937, in Lowell. He attended Immaculate Conception Grammar School and played baseball for the Immaculate Conception CYO. He graduated from Lowell High School, Class of 1955 and was manager of the Lowell High School Baseball Team. Mr. Furey served with the United States Army, stationed in Germany. Following his honorable discharge, he joined the family business, Temple Oil Company in North Reading, retiring as Proprietor in 1998. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Old Scouts, the D'Youville Manor Mens Guild, Longmeadow Golf Club, as well as the Lowell Lodge of Elks B.P.O.E. #87. He most loved the time he spent with his family and friends. He was an avid stock car racing fan, and traveled to race tracks all over the U.S. and Canada to pursue his love of the sport. In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by his three children, Erin Furey-Patterson and her husband, Aaron Patterson, of Weston, Lyn A. Snow of Lowell, and William Furey and Lindsay Turner, of Lowell; his grandchildren, Bryan Snow, Charlotte Patterson, and Claire Patterson; his sister, Anne Thornton of Jacksonville, FL; his cousins, Francis Reidy, James Furey, and Robert Furey; and several nieces and nephews. -- FUREY -- YOU ARE INVITED TO HIS CALLING HOURS 4 UNTIL 8 P.M.
