ACTON -- Joseph W. Delaney, of Chelmsford, formerly of Acton, died peacefully Wednesday, February 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old.

Mr. Delaney was born in Waltham to Richard and Mary Delaney. He completed his schooling in Waltham and enlisted in the US Navy. He served honorably and was a veteran of World War II. The Delaney family settled in Acton in 1954 and raised their children there.

Mr. Delaney was a proud supporter of Acton-Boxborough sports. He was a longtime coach for Acton-Boxborough Little League and started the senior league baseball program. Mr. Delaney was also instrumental in starting the Quarterback Club for Acton-Boxborough High School Football.

Mr. Delaney is survived by his seven children, Robert Delaney & his wife, Brenda of Chelmsford, Richard Delaney & his wife, Cheryl of Boxborough, Joseph Delaney of Townsend, Deborah Delaney of Townsend, Patricia Roscillo & her husband, Ben of Brooksville, FL, Denise Harris & her husband, David of Boxborough, and Sharon Delaney of Townsend. He was the loving grandfather of Sean, Bryan, Kevin, Adam, Alex, Megan, Kelly, Erin, Ryan, Emma, and Joey; and beloved great-grandfater to Lily and Amelya.

DELANEY -- Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours Sun., Feb. 9 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave. (Rte. 111), Acton. Funeral Mass Mon. Feb 10 at 10:00 am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
