Ruth A. Burket
of Chelmsford, was kindergarten teacher; 84

CHELMSFORD -- Ruth Alene (Flaherty) Burket, 84, a resident of Chelmsford since 1968, died Friday, February 7, 2014, at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

She was the wife of the late Thomas W. Burket who died in 1991 and to whom she was married for 40 years.

She was born in Everett on March 6, 1929 and was a daughter of the late John G. and Myrtle A. (MacCarthy) Flaherty. She received her education in Chelsea schools and was a graduate of Chelsea High School. She earned her bachelor degree in teaching from Lesley College in Cambridge.

Prior to her retirement, Ruth taught kindergarten for over 40 years around the world including, Newfoundland, Duluth, MN, Japan, Las Vegas, and for 29 of those years at the Thompson School in Arlington, MA. She is listed in "Who's Who in Education."

After her retirement, her passion in life was ballroom dancing, which she did multiple times a week and made many new friends. She was also a very talented artist and enjoyed painting and drawing. From early childhood through her college years, Ruth owned and loved riding horses. She taught equestrian style at Teela-Wooket Summer Camp in Vermont and won many blue ribbons over the years.

Ruth is survived by her three children, William Burket and his wife, Darlene of Nashua, NH, Patricia Corey and her husband, Brian of Pelham, NH, and Howard Burket and his wife, Ann of Woburn; five grandchildren, Jason Burket and his fiancée, Deb Mac of New Jersey, Jennifer Doubleday and her husband, Ken of Hudson, NH, Brian T. Corey and his wife, Julianne of Bedford, Shawn Corey of Seattle, WA, and Sara Burket of Ayer; six great-grandchildren, Carmela Burket, Owen Doubleday, Evan Doubleday, Emma Doubleday, Ethan Corey, and Emmet Corey; and her companion and friend of 14 years, George Drolet of Lowell.

She was also the grandmother of the late Thomas Burket, and the sister of the late Rita Staffier.

BURKET -- Visitation will be held at the BLAKE FUNERAL HOME, 24 Worthen Street, CHELMSFORD on Monday from 4 until 8 pm. Her Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 11 o'clock at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 242 Boston Rd., Chelmsford. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Interment in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Chelmsford.
