DRACUT -- Frank Smigelski, 93, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at Lowell General Hospital.
He was born in Dracut to the late Charles and Marcelli Smigelski on August 11, 1920. Frank was educated in Dracut and graduated from Dracut High School in 1938.
He joined the Army Air Corps in 1942 and became a decorated pilot with the 352nd Fighter Group based in Bodney, England during WW2 from 1944 to 1945. He then served in the reserves from 1945 to 1949. Frank reached the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged in 1949.
Frank married Doris A. (LaPointe) in 1947, and they were married for 66 years.
He worked for the Dracut School Department from 1970 until retiring in 1984. He enjoyed gardening, photography and doing home improvement projects.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife Doris and three sons: Alan Smigelski, and his wife Wendy, of Pelham, NH; Karl Smigelski, and his wife Linda, of Hudson, NH and Frank Smigelski Jr., and his wife Tara, of Nashua, NH. Six grandchildren and a great-grandson also survive him. He was predeceased by his siblings Charles Smigelski, Albert Smigelski & Anne Buja.
SMIGELSKI -- Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects on THURSDAY, February 13th, at the DRACUT FUNERAL HOME, 2159 Lakeview Ave., Dracut from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Tyngsboro at 10:30 a.m. Burial will then take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Lowell.
